Position Summary:

JWI is seeking a Director of Development to provide vision, direction, coordination and oversight of the organization’s fundraising programs and development plan. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees to meet JWI’s annual fundraising goal of 3 million dollars and to strengthen and expand the development work of the organization, including major donor cultivation and solicitation, foundation and corporate giving, and direct mail and web-based fundraising.

Position Overview:

• Oversee all fundraising activities and events, implementing overall development plans, objectives, and budgets; oversee effective implementation and maintenance of all development office systems and procedures; adjust procedures as necessary to increase department efficiency
• Supervise development department of 5 professional staff
• Create and manage major donor campaign, and expand and oversee current individual donor program and fundraising for JWI’s annual luncheon, Women to Watch
• Oversee foundation fund-raising program, including writing, production and timely submission of all proposals and grant reports, orchestrating contact with and maintaining relations with donors, and identifying new foundation donors
• Meet with donors and prospects
• Manage and oversee production and distribution of materials related to fundraising
• Report regularly to Executive Director and periodically to the Board of Trustees
• Direct and oversee the work of JWI’s Development Committee


Desired Qualifications:

• Minimum of eight to ten years experience directing development efforts in a non-profit organization
• Demonstrated success in the creation and implementation of development strategies; innovative strategic thinker
• A strong manager with a focus on producing results and excellent attention to detail
• Experience and track record in raising funds from foundations, corporations, family funds and individuals
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent planning, organization, management and leadership skills
• Strong commitment to women’s empowerment and economic security
• Experience with on-line fundraising
• Knowledge of and experience in the Jewish community a plus
• Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Word, Outlook and other donor related software
